SUITOPI

In late July 2018, I was walking the streets of Tokyo, Japan with my pal Scott, having just found out a week prior that Megan and I were going to have a baby. Thoughts of being away from Megan at such an important time in both of our lives, fatherhood, hospitals, and the eventual birth of the sweet pea-sized embryo we’d later call Henry were swirling through my mind, especially when ambulances would drive by, as they did often.

Instead of the swooping, dissonant, dynamic siren sounds I’m used to from home, the Japanese ambulances sing a consonant (but slightly flat) major 3rd interval that I found myself harmonizing with and singing along to as they passed.

When I got back to the states, I began putting that siren music down on paper with the very attainable goal of having Henry’s music ready by the time he was born. Well...he just turned one year old last month and here we are.

A tribute to the then sweet pea-sized Henry, and my Mt. Fuji-sized trip to Japan.

Please enjoy “Suītopī”!
